On the 48th day of my trip to Laos,
I grabbed my legs, beep beep~
※Today, I traveled about 130 kilometers
by bus from Samrua to Pahong.
The bus, which had been running non-stop all night, stopped shaking again when the morning sun was in the middle of the day, and finally arrived at Samrua.
Even though I got off the bus, I still hadn’t gotten used to the shaking, and even my eyes were shaking.
In the valley below the mountain,
matchbox-sized houses were hanging in the distance, and there were also large buildings that seemed to be the capital of the city. First, to relax the
strained limbs in the fresh wind, I can warm up.
I was going to walk anyway, but instead of being comfortable after a few days of continuous bus travel, I wanted to get out of boredom right away. As I walked down the road to the center of the city,
I found myself hungry after suffering all night.
I was hanging around and trying to beat up
breakfast first. Seeing a large city sculpture and a stylish bridge, I could see that I was about to arrive at the city center.
There was nothing special that could be thought of other than slurping the chewy rice noodles (‘khao pi yak’ in Lao). I went in to find a noodle shop in a simple market that was moderately crowded.
I knew that the restaurant opposite the market was the best. First, while ordering noodles, I took out a map to the restaurant attendant and pointed to the Vietnamese border, and after sorting out the surrounding villages and roads, I felt that I would have to finish it anyway.
I decided to go to Muang, the border town with Vietnam, the northernmost tip of Laos, which is connected by road, and then I took a bus, and then I decided to go back to my original Tubuk and walk
back in earnest.
I frantically scraped a bowl of noodles and hurriedly boarded the bus to Muange, which said that there were only two flights a day. It looks like it should be sitting in a museum, old and dull, so hard to tell whether it’s a bus or a freight car.
It was a typical mountain bus loaded with all kinds of livestock such as chicks and piglets. Speaking of tourists, most of the tourists here are people who fall into the middle of Biengsai, where it is possible to extrude countries, and cross the border to Hanoi, Vietnam.
Judging from the way he was wearing a backpack, he was clearly a traveler, but he didn’t get off at Bieng Sai, and why he was going to Muang, and why he was going to the border where foreigners are not allowed to enter and exit.
They rushed to me with a squint of glances, and as soon as they met my eyes, they ran innocently running away. They were smiling,
Above all, even though the clothes and decorations that hid the wings were ugly, I was sure that they were my lovely angels that I would never forget, if they were all friendly and wrinkle-free.
I thought I had to solve my homework for today, and that was to find a nice innkeeper on the bus and find a place to lie down comfortably. So I started to take a closer look at the inside of the bus in earnest.
“It’s dark under the lamp,” he said, and after turning around, he caught a young lady in her early 30s sitting
in front of and behind her nose. He looked neat and looked like he was in his mid-teens, and he was sitting with his daughter or brother.
Seeing that he was sitting behind me, I predicted that there would be no accidents in the middle, so I decided to target him first and go into a confirmation kill. Rather than approaching with a bare mouth, first, with a small piece of candy prepared in advance.
After writing to the people around me, I gently approached the little lady, gave her two more candies, and asked her in Lao how far she was going.
Then, since the bus was going to stop at Sophao in the middle of the operation, I decided to postpone the real story until then, and since I found out that I could speak Lao to the people around me anyway, I decided to organize the traffic appropriately in response to the
barrage of questions.
The repertoire of small talk is always a one-size-fits-all question, “What country are you from? What did you come to do? How long have you been traveling? Do you like Laos?”
Based on my experience, I felt that I should get out of this hukou survey, so I hurriedly grabbed an elderly man across the street and went to the reverse question about the end point of the bus, the border town of Muang’e.
After a few conversations, fortunately, the bus had already arrived at Sophao, a stopover, and it was about 30 minutes off. We stopped the hukou survey for a while and started the operation of the homestay as if we had been waiting.
I quickly got off the bus, bought three bottles of the most expensive drink at the store, and approached the two people sitting in the back seat.
After all, they are a mother and daughter, and their beautiful little daughter is 14 years old and named “Kek”, and they are the owner and waitress of a small restaurant in Pahong, and they are now on their way home from shopping in Samrua.
However, I didn’t even think about the person who would give me bread, and I thought, “No! I’m even working at a restaurant,” so I thought there was no icing on the cake, and I was drinking kimchi soup first. Then, I went to the main topic and asked, “Is there a guesthouse in Pahong?” He asked,
Of course, if there is no guesthouse, I made a reservation for a request to stay at your house, and of course I asked with the expectation that there would be none, but what kind of day is this, and there is a guesthouse that should not be, and I thought, “There is.”
It was also “the guesthouse next door to us.” Oh no! I must have been completely stunned today, and I had just been faced with reality. But on the other hand, what kind of guesthouse in this mountain village?
But when I thought about it, it was a mistake
to forget that it was a border city because I wanted to stay in bed and have breakfast.
Of course, even the mother was getting-and-run,
but more and more, she was really thinking that there was no pretense, that there was nothing wrong with her, that the two of them were guilty of something
that was just a fairy lady, that they were shaking their heads, and that they were making a comedy that wasn’t even funny.
During my travels, I made a lot of fuss,
and I made mistakes many times. Of course, nothing in the world is done according to my will.
I was ashamed that I had known it well all
the time, but I didn’t know how to be careful, and that I had eaten crow meat again, and that I had imagined it uselessly for a moment, and I blushed for a
moment. Like the lyrics of a popular song,
If everything was as I wanted, how fun it
would be to live! And the relationship in the world where people live should meet and part naturally as the water flows, regardless of where they are.
It reminded me of a small aspect of my life that if I tried to do something unintentionally, I would invite unfortunate accidents, and even if it did, it would be at least awkward and disappointing.
Maybe that’s why I consoled myself that travel can be more interesting and more mysterious, but it’s still not time to grow up… Still, the not so outstanding but modest scenery leading out of the
window was enough to change my mood,
Today, the mountain bus once again gave me advice about my shallow hair. After driving for about 5 hours, the bus dropped me off at the bus terminus in Pa Hong, and I saw that Vietnam was just across
the river in front of me.
Finally, I realized that I had finally arrived at Samrua, the northernmost point of the east, from Atsap, the
southernmost point of Laos, and above all, I was able to successfully complete the third of the entire trip around Laos by fighting a difficult aerial battle
before giving birth, saying, “Where there is a will, there is a way.”
