my trip to Laos, the nightmare ride is not over yet! (1)&(2)
※Today I went 100km by bus from Saisombun
to Taha.
In the early morning, when another day was
beginning, I sat on the balcony of the hospital and greeted the morning with a
cup of coffee in the fragrance of a cup of coffee. During an accident, then I

It was just a simple loveliness so innocent that time seemed to stand still. After a long time, another calm day passed, and the pain in my head and shoulders that I used to come to me from time to time disappeared.
The stagecoach who had been recoiling again slowly raised his head, and since he was waiting for me on my way to Xiengguang here in Saisombun anyway, I had shaken off my blissful two-night, three-day rest in Saisombun Hospital, and started my steps.
First of all, we started with a minimal amount of Saisom and went out for a while, and then we went to the national park area of Phubia, the highest peak in Laos. But it was also true that the grandeur of the landscape painting needed no further explanation.
In a word, it was more than a simple landscape painting, it was so perfect that it needed no further explanation, and it could only be said that it was as if it were in a heavenly painting, and that it was impossible to keep your mouth shut all day.
After another day of emotion, I woke up early the next morning in my hospital bed, and I saw the blue sky, the white clouds of all kinds, the bewitching branches swaying in the wind, and the local anaks playing the stream with their clothes bats below.
Nothing was compromised, it was just so beautiful. But now that I was in a hospital where I didn’t even fit in anymore, I felt guilty as if I had become a nylon patient.
Driven by the thought that this was no longer mine, and knowing full well that it would never fit, I finally walked out of the hospital, wishing the other patients a speedy recovery, despite the medical staff’s advice to stay for another day or two.
When I left the hospital, I couldn’t erase the faces of the hospital staff from the corners of my eyes for a while, and that was because of my bond and affection, and that I even brought out the precious gallbladder of a wild bear that I had hidden in my emergency fund, and I fed the patients all night and did my best.
All the kindness and tenderness that I could not express in words, which was never tainted, were following me all the time. Still, I will forever fold them up in my memory,
I was busy walking with my own carefree body and mind, and after a while such a cysom was also at me, adding to the fresh morning sunlight, and the beautiful surroundings waving freshly to me, and I shook hands willingly with a deep breath full of heart.
I was walking with the last of the saisom in my heart. Soon after, I snooped through the market in the middle of Saisom Boon, looking for transportation to the north to Xieng Quang Province. Of course, I wanted to walk because I felt like it,
Considering that the road and mountains that passed from Tabok to Long Mountain here a few days ago were no joke, it is even more so that there are as many as 11 mountains in Laos that are more than 2.000 meters above sea level, such as Mt. Paektu in our country, and 6 of them are concentrated in this area from Saisom to Xiengguang.
Above all, it is impossible to ignore the fact that the huge “Pubia”, which is said to be the highest peak in Laos, boasts an altitude of about 3.000 meters, and if you were to walk through this area, it would be a shame that you would not be able to die.
If I wanted to live, I had no choice but to use public transportation, which is the least common sense. I looked around as if to confirm my feelings, where did you hide and then appear?
Suddenly, two policemen blocked my path and called me over. This area is like the roof of Laos. Of course, the valley is deep, and the forests are dense, and it is famous as it is beautiful, and even Laotians are reluctant to travel through this area.
No matter how good the trip is, for a foreigner to say that he would walk through this area alone is to say that no matter where he went wrong, it must be wrong, and that he would never be able to go on foot, with a mixture of reluctance and disgust.
No, by the way, I didn’t even say when I was going to walk, but I don’t know what I’m talking about! I asked him if he was crazy, and he said he was looking for transportation.
However, one of my friends smiled and said that he couldn’t believe what I was saying, saying that he had already been investigating the accident at the hospital, and that the police had been watching my every move, as he had already shared the story of how I had come to this place on foot from Attaphu.
Egumoney me! I felt a sting, but on the other hand, I had given up on walking, so I was able to finish by gently shaking my head to express my true colors. However, the real problem was that simple tourists could not even go to Xieng Quang by car.

“However, I had just been discharged from the hospital after being treated for an accident and I was nervous that I would be leaving Saisomboon right away, but I decided that if I left immediately, I would not have any more problems,” he said.
He said, “Don’t talk too much, leave as soon as possible, it will be good for your personal image.” In short, he told me to leave quietly and not nag. Then I showed him a map, and it really said “Special Management Area” in red letters next to Saisomboon.
I don’t know why the Lao government is restricting access to this area as a special management area, but at first glance, in the process of communization of Laos, the last resistance fighters hid in this area and fought a decisive battle.
In particular, due to the very rugged nature of the mountain, it was difficult to completely wipe out the remnants of the remnants at that time, so they remained and turned into a small number of armed guerrilla bandits, causing real damage to nearby villages and surrounding roads, so they are still specially managed as dangerous areas.
He also pulled out a booklet and showed the relevant regulations, which stated, “All foreigners as well as locals are prohibited from entering the area, and in special cases, they must be accompanied by soldiers or police with the permission of the government to enter and exit.

또 하루가 시작되고 있는 이른 아침, 팔자에도 없는 병원 발코니에 앉아 커피한잔의 향기 속, 조금은 여유로운 사이솜분의 아침을 맞이하고 있었다. 아무리 사고의 와중, 병상이라고 해도 생각 했던 것 보다,
훨씬 소박하면서도, 더 아름답고 웅장한 주변의 모습들이 함께하고 있었음에, 진정 내 가슴 속 깊은 곳에서부터 우려 나오는, 외마디 감탄사를 감출 수 없게 하고 있었다. 맑게 개인 미치도록 파란 하늘에는 솜사탕 같은 흰구름들이 한가로이 노닐고 있었고,
그 아래 웅장하게 펼쳐 놓은 산 봉우리들은, 끝없이 이어지면서 눈길 닿는 곳마다, 그림 같은 기암절벽들은 열두폭이 넘는 병풍을 만들어 놓고는, 그것도 모자라 내가 손을 뻗치면 잡힐 듯, 산자락 곳곳에 온갖 야생화들을 뿌려 놓고는,
있는 그대로의 원색들을 꺼내선, 눈이 부시게 화려 함을 수 놓아 있었다. 또한 계곡과 숲 사이로 흐르고 있는 맑디 맑은 시냇물들과, 너무나 정겹기만 한 한가로운 소떼들에 울음소리, 그리고 사이사이 동네 강아지와 염소들과 뛰노는 꼬마녀석들까지,
그저 너무나 천진난만한 소박한 사랑스러움 들이기에 시간이 멈춘 듯만 싶었다. 그렇게 오랜만의 여유로움 속 잔잔한 또 하루가 지나고, 이제는 간간이 찾아 들던 머리와 어깨 등의 통증도 언제 그랬냐고 말끔해 지면서,
또 다시 움츠리고 있었던 역마살이 슬며시 고개를 들었고, 어차피 여기 사이솜분에서 시엥광까지의 나의 길도 기다리고 있었음에, 잠시 행복에 겨웠던, 2박3일간의 사이솜분 병원에서의 휴식을 훌훌 털어버리고, 발걸음에 시동을 걸고 있었다.
일단은 최소한의 사이솜분부터 돌아보고 파, 살짝 외출을 하여, 내친김에 라오스 최고봉 푸비아의 국립공원지역을 다녀왔다. 그런데 역시 그 웅장함에는 더 이상 설명이 필요 없는 풍경화가 사실이었는데,
한마디로 단순 풍경화를 넘어 어떤 부연설명도 필요 없는 너무나 완벽한 신선도였음에, 천상의 그림 속에 들어와 있는 듯, 하루 종일 입을 다물지 못할 정도였음이라고 말할 수 있을 뿐이었다.
그렇게 감동의 또 하루가 지나고, 역시 병상에서 다음날 아침 일찍 눈을 떴는데, 푸른 하늘 각양각색 흰구름, 바람에 흔들리는 요염한 나뭇가지들, 그 아래 빨래 방망이로 시냇물을 연주하는 동네 아낙들까지,
무엇 하나 전혀 손색이 없는, 그저 너무나 아름다운 정겨움 뿐이었다. 그러나 이젠 아무래도 더 이상 탱자 탱자 어울리지도 않는 병원신세를 진다는 것은 부담스럽기만 했기에, 내 성격상 나일론 환자라도 된 것 같은 자책감에,
이건 더 이상 내 것이 아니라는 생각에 떠밀려, 절대 어울리지 않음을 잘 알았기에, 하루 이틀정도 더 있으라는 의료진의 말류에도 불구하고, 끝내 다른 환자들의 빠른 쾌유를 빌면서 병원문을 나서고 말았다.
그렇게 병원을 나서고 보니, 한동안 내내 병원식구들의 얼굴을 눈가에서 지울 수 없었는데, 그것도 인연이고 정이라고, 비상금으로 감춰 놓은 귀하디 귀한 야생 곰의 쓸개(웅담)까지 가지고 나와, 환자들에게 밤새 먹여주면서 최선을 다하는 것 등,
말로는 일일이 표현할 수 없었던, 결코 오염되지 않은 자상함과 애뜻함들 모두가, 한사코 나를 따라오고 있었던 것이었다. 그래도 나는 언제까지나 그들을 기억속에 차곡차곡 고이 접어 간직하면서,
나름 홀가분한 몸과 마음으로 발걸음을 옮기 바빴고, 잠시 후 그런 사이솜분은 역시 나에게, 싱그러운 아침 햇살을 더하여, 너무나 아름다운 주변 경계가 신선하게 손을 흔들어주면서, 나는 절로 가슴 가득한 심호흡으로 기꺼이 악수하면서,
마지막 사이솜분을 가슴 가득 불어넣으며 걷고 있었다. 그리고 이내 다다른 사이솜분의 한복판 시장 통을 기웃거리며, 북쪽 시엥꽝주로 향하는 교통편을 알아보기 시작했다. 물론 마음 같아 선 당연 걸어서 가고는 싶었지만,
며칠 전 타복에서 롱산을 거쳐 여기까지, 지나온 도로와 산세 등이 장난이 아니었음을 감안할 때, 더 더욱 라오스에는 해발 2.000미터가 넘는 우리나라의 백두산과 같은 산들이 무려 11개가 있는데, 그 중 6개가 사이솜분에서 씨엥광까지 이 지역에 몰려 있고,
무엇보다 라오스의 최고봉이라 불리 우는 거대한 ‘푸비아‘까지, 해발 약3.000미터의 위세를 자랑하고 있는 곳임을 무시할 수가 없어, 만일 걸어서 이 지역을 통과한다는 것은, 한마디로 그냥 죽지 못해 환장한 짓임이 분명,
일단 살려고 한다면 객기보다는 최소한의 상식과도 같은 대중교통편을 이용할 수밖에는 방법이 없었음 이란 것이었다. 두리 번 두리 번 그런데 그런 내 맘을 확인이라도 하려는 듯, 어디에 숨어 있다가 나타났는지,
불쑥 경찰관 2명이 가는 길을 가로 막고 나를 불러 세우더니, 역시 라오스의 지붕과도 같은 이 지역은. 당연 계곡이 깊고 숲이 울창 해 아름다움만큼 험난한 곳으로 유명, 라오스인들조차 이 지역의 통행은 꺼린다고 하면서,
아무리 여행이 좋다고 하지만 외국인이 그것도 혼자 이 지역을 걸어서 통과하겠다고 하는 것은, 분명 어디 가 잘못됐어도 단단히 잘못된 것이라며, 난색과 질색을 동시패션 하면서, 절대 걸어서는 못 간다고 하는 것 이였다.
아니 그런데 내가 언제 걸어서 간다고 하지도 않았는데, 무슨 말을 하는지 모르겠다고 시침 뚝! 오히려 미쳤냐고 여기서 거기가 어디라고 걸어서 간다는 말이냐고 반문을 하고는, 당연 교통편을 알아보고 있는 중이라고 했다.
그러나 한 친구가 빙그레 웃으며, 이미 병원에서 사고조사 등을 하면서, 내가 아땃푸에서 여기까지 걸어서 오게 된 여행경위가 공유되면서, 경찰에선 내 일거 수 일 투족을 눈 여겨 보고 있었다고 하면서, 지금 하는 말은 믿을 수가 없다고 하는 것이었다.
에구머니 나! 찔리는 감은 있었지만, 그래도 한편으론, 사실 걸어서 간다는 것은 포기하는 중이었기에, 고개를 살래살래 정색을 표현하는 것으로 마무리 지을 수 있었다. 그런데 진짜 문제는 단순 여행객 등은 시엥꽝 쪽으론 자동차로도 갈 수 없다고 하는 것이었다.
아울러 부득불 가야 할 경우에는 사이솜분에서 씨엥광으로 가는 자동차 등의 교통편을 이용할 수 있는 “정부와 경찰의 허락을 받아야 한다”는 것이라고 다그쳤다. 당연 “왜?” 그러냐? 고 묻지 않을 수 없었는데,
한마디로 “자세한 내용은 말할 수 없다”고 하면서, 오히려 그렇지 않아도, “우리는 당신이 허가 없이 어떻게 여기까지 왔는지, 충분이 문제가 되고 있어서, 그 경로 등을 따져보려고 소환조사를 하려고 했다” 면서,
“다만 사고로 병원에서 치료를 받고 조금 전 퇴원하여, 곧바로 사이솜분을 떠날 것 같아서 신경을 곤두세울 수밖에 없었는데, 하지만 즉시 떠나기만 한다면 더 이상 문제를 삼지 않겠다고 결론을 내렸다”고 하면서,
“긴 말 하지 말고, 무조건 어서 빨리 떠나는 것이, 신상에 이로울 것”이라고 했다. 한마디로 잔소리 말고 조용히 떠나라는 것이었다. 그리곤 지도를 보여 주는데, 정말 사이솜분 옆에 빨간 글자로 ‘특별관리구역’이라고 표시되어 있었다.
확실히 무슨 이유로 라오스 정부가 이지역을 특별관리구역으로 출입통제를 하고 있는지는 모르겠지만, 얼핏 라오스가 공산화 되는 과정에서, 마지막 저항군들이 이지역으로 숨어들어 결사항전을 벌였던 곳으로,
특히 산세가 매우 험준한 관계로, 당시 잔당의 완전 소탕이 어려웠기에, 최근에도 그들이 남아서, 소수의 무장게릴라 산적으로 변신 출몰하면서, 인근마을과 주변도로에서 실제 피해가 발생하고 있음에, 아직 위험지역으로 특별관리하고 있다는 것이었다.
또한 책자를 꺼내선 관련규정을 보여주는데, “이 지역은 내국인은 물론 모든 외국인의 출입이 금지돼 있으며, 특별한 경우 정부의 허락을 받아, 군인이나 경찰과 함께 동행해야 만 들어오고 나갈 수 있다고 쓰여 있었다.
