터벅터벅, 바람에 구름 가듯.


day 28, beautiful world, beautiful people!

 Beautiful Vong Bao! Everywhere I went, I was walking in a beautiful landscape that could be said to be nagging. Even more from the agricultural mountains, there is a very neat asphalt pavement that looks like it was paved a while ago.

 It was clear that this was a remote mountain. However, it seemed that the march was more like the loess road than the asphalt, and the fatigue of the feet, as well as the smell of the soil, was pleasant, but I wondered if there were any things in the world that I could do as I pleased.

 I just desperately wanted to get off the asphalt road and walk on the loess road again. However, as yesterday and today, the beauty of the heavens was showing off here and there, and I was overwhelmed by the beauty of my surroundings and walked with a pleasant step.

 As I walked through the mountains, soaked in the atmosphere that seemed to appear fresh at any moment, I saw the new blue sky, the white clouds, the river flowing beautifully through the precious stone tombs, and the occasional breeze.

 Everything enveloped me like a mist, so mysterious and fragrant. However, one thing  that I said was “a post-dinner view of Mt. Kumgang”, so the step of skipping breakfast was only 1% short of not letting my belly button clock stand still.

 Eventually, as time passed, the sun was in the middle of the sky, but there was still no trace of it, so I could only walk with the comfort, “Just a little more,” and no matter how much I was in the heavens, I couldn’t soothe my helpless stomach with just the beautiful eye candy.

 This is also a place where people live, but the fact that there are no restaurants in sight in such a beautiful mountain is a mistake of human beings, who can be said to be economic animals in the monetary system who build cable cars and climb up even on the top of the Alps.

 After all, it was ironic, and I was even singing the house of Sainte. However, the only conclusion I could get was that I was looking forward to seeing my relatives show up as soon as possible, and that I had to avoid hunger at all costs to change my outlook on life.

 Luckily, when I turned around a heel, I could see the inhabited houses in the distance, and I was so happy to run closer and take a closer look at it, and oh my gosh! It seems to be located off the middle three-way street, but the problem was that it was off the beaten path.

 And even that was a long way from the other side of the town, so I had to hesitate. However, due to the nature of the rural villages in Laos, if I missed one village from here, there was no guarantee that I would be able to reach the next village.

 For now, I felt like it was right to ask for help from the other village, even if I had to stray a little way, so I had no choice but to turn away. I sweated like that, and I walked hard for more than 30 minutes to reach the front of the village.

 When I got closer, I saw that it was too small to be called a village, and that it was just a few farmhouses huddled together. However, the important thing was not whether the village was big or small, but whether it could solve the people’s livelihood crisis.

 Luckily, I had the good fortune to eat, but I happened to see a group of people huddled together in the yard of their homes, gathering spoons and spoons, as if they were about to start a meal that was a little late due to the work of farming. After all, I feel like I’m a guy

 But before I could ask for help, he was reluctant to accept me for a meal with me, and his first words were to invite me to have a meal with him. Of course, I had no choice but to say thank you as if I had been waiting for the confiscation of my face, and then I had no choice but to intervene in the crowd.

 Perhaps it was because he was starving for breakfast, or perhaps he didn’t have a feast on it, but he didn’t seem to know what to eat, and he seemed to be busy munching and swallowing without a sense of shame.

 No one chased me like that for a long time, and I was in such a hurry that I couldn’t help but get thirsty, and in the end, I had no choice but to take a break from a bowl of cold water offered by the lesser host, and I couldn’t help but take care of the eyes around me.

 I gulped down a bowl of cold water like that, and then I realized that I had been a little harsh, and all I could do was bow my head to the stares that came my way, and even more so everyone was telling me to eat slowly! I was so grateful.

 However, the spooning was busy frantically filling its stomach for a while, and after a while, when it was somewhat full, they finally began to catch their breath and began to investigate each other’s hogu in a common statement that could be said to be the least common denominator anywhere.

 Anyway, I couldn’t get up as soon as I put the spoon down, at least I had to pay for a meal to thank them, and for a while I was talking about non-nutritious words, but since I was traveling in Laos on foot, I couldn’t understand why I was going through all that trouble.

 He just smiled and said that he had a long way to go, and that he had a long way to go, and that he had eaten well, and took out a small amount of money to add to the cost of the side dishes, in order to make up for the inconvenience.

 However, he refused and instead brought corn and water to eat! I was proud that I had lived my life in a way that was considerate of others and helped others, not to mention the harm of anyone.

 For some reason, I was ashamed of my hands because I tried to express my gratitude with a few pennies today, and I thought again about living today, with so much help and consideration from this beautiful world, the beautiful people of Laos.

 I felt like I had to learn more from them. Yes! What did they want from me to help me? I don’t know when I’ll come back after this kind of thing, so if I just give it to you, how will I get it…

 Are they just blindly helping you in the first place? Of course, there were a lot of times when I was tired of the Yamche people getting in there from time to time, but in general, there are better and upright people in the world than there are today.  

 Someone says: Even if you give what you have to someone who needs it, and when you need it, even if it’s not necessarily the person you gave it to, you have no choice but to receive it from someone else.   

 It is comforting to know that what I received from someone a long time ago I have given back to you now, and that you should not try to repay me either, but that if someone else needs what you have, you can give it back to them.

 The fact that you have already received it even if you have given it and not received it, that everything is already shared, so it is only a matter of course that it goes around and around, and there is nothing to show off at all, and some people may even think that helping others is an investment in receiving help.

 Maybe it was, at least, that if I helped others, I could enjoy myself, and in the end, my choice for myself was to be helped by help. To help and to receive help in this way is to never need any meaning.

 It’s just that if you’re content to give and receive with a pure heart, that’s enough. Since human beings cannot live as a solitary general just because they are good at doing things in the world, it is natural to help if they can help and receive if they can.

 One thing I knew was that if the essence of life was based only on material possessions, it would be foolish to always give what is one’s own, or to always receive what is not one’s own. But now, if you take matter and repay it with spirit, and you take spirit and repay it with matter,

 Isn’t that just fair? In other words, in any case, if you give, you will surely receive something, and if you receive it, you will have something to give, but there is nothing in your own situation. It may be nothing.

 The world where we live together, the world where we live together, the unconditional slashing of the poor mountain people of Laos “Gong Su Lae Gong Su Su” Originally, I thought that I was teaching that everything that was not given or received was sharing, because I had nothing of my own.

 

28째날, 아름다운 세상, 아름다운 사람들!

 아름다운 봉바오! 발길 닿는 곳마다 두말하면 잔소리라고 할 수 있을 정도로 아름드리 산수에 빠져서 걷고 있었다. 더 더욱 농산에서부터 얼마전 포장을 한듯한 너무나 깔끔한 아스팔트 포장도로가 줄 곳 이어지고 있어,

 여기가 외딴 산속임을을 무색케 하고 있었다. 하지만 아무래도 행군을 하는 데는 아스팔트 보다는 황토 길이 발의 피로는 물론, 흙 냄새가 정감 어려 좋은 듯 싶었지만, 세상사 어디 내 마음대로 할 수 있는 일들이 있겠냐 싶었기에,

 그저 다시 아스팔트 길을 벗어나 황토 길을 걷고 싶다는 생각이 간절할 뿐 이였다. 그러나 어제에 이어 오늘도 천상의 아름다운 자태가 여기 저기서 마음 것 뽐내고 있었기에, 주변의 멋스러움에 압도당한 채, 기분 좋은 발걸음을 옮기고 있었다.

 그렇게 어디 짬에 선가 신선이라도 나타날 것만 같은 정취에 흠뻑 젖어, 산속을 거닐고 있었는데, 새 파란 하늘, 하얀 구름, 그리고 아기자기 돌무덤 사이로 예쁘게 흐르는 강물에, 간간이 불어오는 바람까지,

 모든 것이 안개처럼 나를 감싸 안고 있었기에, 더 없이 신비롭고 향기롭기만 했다. 그런데 한가지 “금강산 구경도 식후경” 이라고 했음 이기에, 아침을 거르고 나선 발걸음은, 배꼽시계를 가만히 놔두질 않고 있음이, 오직 1% 부족 함이었다.

 결국 시간이 지남에 따라, 태양은 중천에 올라 있었지만, 아직 인기척은 어디에서도 찾을 길 없어, 그저 “조금만 더” 라고 위로만을 되씹으며, 걸을 수밖에 없었는데, 아무리 천상에 있다해도, 아름다운 눈요기만으론 속절없는 배를 달랠 수가 없었는지,

 여기도 사람 사는 곳이 분명한데, 이렇게 아름다운 산속에 전혀 식당이 보이질 않고 있음은, 아무리 알프스 산꼭대기라고 해도, 케이블카라도 만들어 타고 올라가는, 금전 만능주의 속 경제적 동물이라고 할 수 있는, 인간들의 실수라고 투덜거리며,

 역시 아이러니가 아닐 수 없다는, 생트집까지 부르고 있었다. 그러나 결론은 그저 어서 빨리 인기척이 나타나 주기만을 고대하며, 어떻게 든 허기를 면해야 인생관을 바뀔 수 있다는 생각 뿐이었다.

 다행히 한 굽이 돌아서니 저 멀리 사람사는 집들이 보이고 있었고, 반가운 마음에 좀더 가깝게 달려가서 자세히 살펴보니, 아뿔싸! 중간 삼거리에서 우회해서 위치하고 있음 같은데, 문제는 가고자 하는 길에서 벗어나 있다는 것이었다.

 또한 그 마저도, 제법 한참을 꺼꾸로 가야 할 거리에 있는, 동떨어진 동네였기에 망설일 수밖에 없음이었다. 그러나 그동안 겪은 라오스의 시골 마을의 특성상, 혹시 여기서 저 마을을 놓치면, 다음 마을까지의 기약은 얼마라고 보장할 수 없었기에,

 일단은 조금 가는 길에서 벗어나더라도 저 마을에서 도움을 청 해야함이 옳은 듯 싶어 지면서, 발길을 돌릴 수밖에 없었다. 그렇게 땀 찔찔, 30분이상을 열심히 걸어서 마을 앞에 다 달았는데,

 막상 가까이 와서 보니 마을이라고 하기에는 너무 작은, 단지 보이는 몇 채의 농가가 옹기종기 모여 있음이 전부. 그러나 중요한 것은 마을이 크고 작고 보다는 민생고를 해결할 수 있느냐가 관건이었는데,

 다행히 먹을 복은 있었는지 마침, 농사일에 떠밀려 조금 늦은 식사들을 막 시작하려는 듯, 집 마당에 옹기종기 모여 앉아 서들, 숟가락들을 챙기고 있는 사람들과 마주쳤다. 역시 웬 놈인가 싶은 눈초리가 쏟아지는데

 그러나 이내 내가 도움을 청하기도 전, 라오스 시골 인심 답게 거두절미하고, 첫 한마디가 무조건 같이 식사를 하자고 부르는 것이었다. 당연 안면몰수 기다렸다는 듯이 고맙다며 사람들 틈으로 적당히 끼어들 수밖에 없었는데,

 아침을 굶어서 그런지, 진수성찬이 따로 없음은 당연, 하지만 얻어먹는 주제도 모르는 듯, 얼씨구나 체면 불구하고 우적우적 마구 씹어 삼키기에 바쁘기만 한 꼬라지는, 참으로 꼴불견이 따로 없는 것 같았다.

 한참을 그렇게 쫓아오는 사람도 없는데, 급히 서두르다 보니, 급기야 목이 메일 수밖에 없었고, 결국 보다 못한 주인장이 내미는 냉수 한 사발에, 한 박자 쉴 수밖에 없었는데, 비로소 안스러운 주변 눈빛을 챙길 수밖에 없음이었다.

 그렇게 시원하게 냉수한사발을 들이켜고, 그제서야 내가 조금 심했나 싶어 지면서, 마주치는 시선들에게 그저 꾸뻑 꾸뻑 고개만 숙이는 것이 전부였는데, 더 더욱 모두가 천천히 먹으라고만 하는 것이 아닌가! 정말 너무너무 고맙기만 할 따름이었다.

 그렇지만 눈치코치도 아랑곳 없는 숟가락질은, 한동안은 정신없이 배를 채우기만 바빴고, 잠시 후 어느정도 배가 채워져서야, 드디어 숨 고르기에 들어가면서 어디서든 최소한의 공통분모라고 할 수 있는 통성명에 서로의 호구조사를 시작했다.

 어쨌든 숟가락 놓자마자 일어날 수는 없어, 최소한 고마움에 대한 밥값은 한답시고 한동안 영양가 없는 말들을 떠들어 됐는데, 역시 걸어서 라오스여행을 하고 있음에, 그 고생을 사서 하는 이유가 뭔 지가 전혀 이해할 수 없다는 표정들이었다.

 더 이상의 설명 보다는 그저 빙그레 웃음으로 마무리하고는, 이제 갈 길이 멀어 일어서야 갰다고 하면서, 정말 고맙게 잘 먹었다며 인사와 함께, 최소한의 민폐는 만회하고자, 반찬 값에 보태 쓰라고, 얼마 안 되는 돈을 꺼내었다.

 그러나 한사코 거절하면서 오히려 가면서 먹으라고 옥수수와 물까지 챙겨 주시는 것이 아닌가! 나는 여지 것 살아오면서, 어떤 누구에게도 피해는 물론, 나름 남을 배려하고 남을 도우며 살아왔다고 자부했는데,

 왠지 오늘만큼은 몇 푼 안되는 돈으로 그 고마움을 임기응변하려고 했음에, 내 손이 부끄럽기만 했고, 이 아름다운 세상, 아름다운 라오스 사람들에게서 많은 도움과 배려로, 오늘을 산다는 것에 대해, 다시 생각해 보면서,

 더 더욱 이들에게서 많은 것을 배워야 할 것 같다는 생각을 해봤다. 그렇다! 이들은 나에게 무엇을 바라고 나를 도와줬단 말인가? 이렇게 지나가고 나면 언제 다시 올지도 모르는데, 그냥 주기만 하면 어떻게 받으려고…

 난생 초면에 아무 조건 없이, 그저 맹목적으로 도와주고들 있다는 것인지? 물론, 얼마 전 같이 얌체족들도 간간이 끼어 있어, 식상할 때도 여러 번 있긴 했지만, 대체적으로 세상에는 오늘 같이 착하고 올바른 사람이 더 많다는 것.

 어떤 사람이 이렇게 말한다. 당연 있는 것을 필요로 하는 사람에게 주고 내가 필요로 할 때는 꼭 내가 줬던 사람이 아니라고 해도, 어떤 다른 사람에게서 또 받을 수밖에 없는 세상 살이, 그렇게 누군가와 주고받는 다는 것은,

 오래전 내가 누군가에게서 받은 것을 지금 당신에게 되 돌려준 것뿐, 당신 역시 나에게 갚으려 하지 말고 또 다른 사람이 당신이 가지고 있는 것을 필요로 한다면 그 사람에게 돌려주면 된다는 것이 위로가 되고 있음이었다.

 주기만 하고 받지 않았어도 이미 받았다는 것. 모든 것은 이미 공유하고 있었기에 돌고 돈다는 당연함 일 뿐, 생색 낼 것이 전혀 없음이란 것으로, 더러는 남을 돕는 다는 것 또한 어쩌면 도움을 받을 것에 대한 투자라고까지 생각할 수 있음인데

 어쩌면 그것은, 최소한 남을 도운다면, 내 자신은 즐거울 수 있었기에, 결국 나를 위한 나의 선택으로 도움을 준다는 것은 도움을 받은 것이라는 것이었다. 그렇게 도움을 주고 도움을 받는 다는 것은, 결코 어떤 의미가 필요치 않는다는 것이다.

 다만 순수한 마음으로 주고받는 것에 만족하면 그만. 인간 세상사 혼자 잘났다고 독불장군으로 살 수는 없음이 분명 하기에, 도울 수 있으면 돕고, 받을 수 있으면 받는 것이 당연한 인지상정 이란 것이다.

 내가 알고 있는 어떤 한가지는, 삶의 본질이 물질적 소유에만 바탕을 둔다면 자기 것을 늘 주는 것도, 자기 것이 아닌대도 늘 받는 것도, 어리석은 처세라고 알고 있었다. 그러나 이제 물질을 받아 정신으로 갚고, 정신을 받아 물질로 갚으면,

 그것도 공평하기는 마찬가지가 아닐까? 다시 말해 어떤 경우에도 주면 반드시 받을 게 있고 받으면 줄게 있다는 것은, 내 스스로의 상황 속 차이만 있을 뿐, 따지고 보면 아무것도 없음이요. 아무것도 아님일지 모른다는 것이다.

 더불어 사는 세상, 함께 살아가는 세상, 라오스의 넉넉치 않은 산골사람들의 조건 없는 베려는 “공수래 공수거” 본래 내 것은 아무것도 없었기에 준 것도, 받은 것도 아닌 모든 것은 나눔이라고 가르쳐 주고 있음이 아닌가 싶었다.
