Learning Lao while Traveling
What a beautiful world it is!
walk to the sky....

Like clouds moving in the wind.

On the 16th day of my trip to Laos,
I learned Lao while traveling.
Early in the morning, I left the guesthouse where I had stayed for a long time, and even though it was still in the city center, I was standing on an endless asphalt road under a blue sky, with only an open seclusion to walk along.
Now I felt like I was just enjoying the walk, but since I was walking 20 kilometers as a warm-up after a break, I knew I could get to Seno in about half a day, so I was walking at a leisurely pace.
The westerly breeze blows from time to time, and the only thing that wakes up the silence is the noise of passing cars, but I was walking with him and telling him many old stories, telling me not to get bored today.
It had been about a month since I had just started a journey that I couldn’t die, and I was telling myself that the meaning of this trip was enough just to be able to “walk to the sky” on my own, according to my own decisions, without any conflict.
As I left the city, I was immersed in a vast open field, and the area I was walking in, despite being the urban area, was Laos’ largest breadbasket, with a tediously endless horizon along a tributary of the Mekong River.
The midday sun is not hot, but it is burning hard. I wanted to take a break under the shade of a tree, but I couldn’t find any shade from the common trees, and I couldn’t open my eyes because I couldn’t find any shade from the trees.
He had only taken his first steps in the distant mountains and forests, and he was already eagerly hoping for the forests to come out as soon as possible. We haven’t even passed the first checkpoint, Seno, yet, so how can we deal with the 250 kilometers of the great plains, which are so far away…
Suddenly, I wondered why me? I wondered if I was going to the forest and what was in it, but I was trying to make excuses for it, saying that the forest was not asking for anything from all those who visited the forest, but rather showing generosity and generosity.
He added that all life in the forest would at least not starve to death. And aren’t all those who choose the forest to be true to themselves in their own way, to learn seclusion and seclusion, and to live a new life? While questioning
As the ancient Chinese sage Tzu said, “If the meaning is not there, you cannot see it, you cannot hear it, and if you eat it but do not know the taste,” if you do not know the meaning of the forest even if it is by your side, then the forest can only be the shadow of a pastime.
In one of Chepman’s famous poems, “The human world is full of falsehoods! All celestial pleasures are diminished by the luxuries of this world,” and it is necessary to recall the words which rebuked the desire for more than necessary, leaving inner beauty behind.
It was an established fact that nature and humans, and the forest and the people who live in the forest, are all members of Mother Nature who cannot be two and cannot be one, so I am searching for the truth of the forest, and the forest will surely teach me a new life.
I had no doubt about it. If I could get away from what I could see, and close my eyes, and see my myriad forests that I had not yet seen, or I could see them clearly, no matter how far and difficult it may be, I must go to my forest.
Isn’t that why I should live? I just wanted to. It can be said that I am heading to my forest, in search of a world of uncertainty, a free self who longs for at least a minimum of mental stability and relaxation.
Perhaps, now, he was only overwhelmed by those pleasant premonitions, and was already excited. But on the other hand, running away from the world, still making lame excuses, as if it were not a spectacle.
I couldn’t help but laugh at the thought of the rationalization of a one-man show that was so absurd, but luckily no one was watching, and I didn’t think there was any madness.
As we laughed and chatted like that, I was greeted by a road sign that said that the train was still going and that the Seno, which I was aiming for today, was near, and I wanted to hug and kiss the sign because I was grateful for the letter “Seno” that said “Seno” so that I could finally face reality.
Speaking of which, after traveling around Laos for a long time, the Lao letters written on the information boards and signposts such as the repetitive villages along the road are no longer unfamiliar, and as I alternated between English and Lao writing,
I found that I was learning the Lao alphabet naturally. Even though I had learned a little Lao before this trip, I was in a hurry to learn the conversational language, so I didn’t have enough time to learn the characters.
I almost gave up because it wasn’t easy to learn Lao characters, which are relatively difficult to speak, but as I often encountered various billboards and information boards while traveling, I felt that I could understand and read the structure of the letters a little.
Also, if you look at the Lao language, it is said that there are many things that are very similar to our Hangeul, but first of all, all the sounds are the same as Hangeul, and the consonants, vowels, and even the supporting characters are different in shape, and they have almost the same structure and form.
However, Korean Hangul consists of 26 consonants and vowels, so the consonants are placed in front of the consonants, the vowels are placed on the right, and the supporting characters are arranged at the bottom, whereas Lao has 28 consonants and vowels.
In the arrangement of consonants and vowels, the first and second vowels, as well as the upper and lower vowels, were placed in the middle of the consonants according to the letters, and the vowels were placed in all directions.
Also, there are many words that have similar meanings and meanings to our words, and there are many similarities in the use of honorifics in sentences, so I thought that if Koreans and Laotians could learn each other’s languages, it wouldn’t be too difficult.
In fact, a student I met while learning Lao said, “Lao is easy to say and listen to because the pronunciation of sentences is simple, but the characters are complicated, and it is difficult to read and write the letters.
Comparatively, Korean has a variety of pronunciations of sentences, making it difficult to speak and hear, whereas the characters are easy to read and write,” he explained, adding that compared to Korean, Lao does not have spacing in the words in the sentence, does not use conjunctions and conjunctions, etc.
Instead, I remembered that he said that he was using 6 stars (strong, weak, zhang, dan, go, and low). In addition, according to linguists around the world, Lao is one of the origins of Southeast Asia, and it is a profound representative language with its legitimacy and history.
Among the languages in the world, the only languages that can convey emotions with the human voice are Korean, Chinese, and Lao, which can be expressed as eponymous languages, because Korean has 5 stars (gong, sang, gak, qi, and wu), and Chinese has 4 stars (kang, yak, zhang, dan).
I had heard that Lao is an excellent language that can convey the delicate meanings and emotions of five, four, and six subtle meanings and emotions with the same six voices, each of which has the same six voices. Maybe I, a foreigner, walked through Laos and did it all by myself.
The reason why I was able to make the decision to make a sudden trip was because I was able to learn at least a few Lao languages easily, but as I traveled, I realized that I could not speak foreign languages such as English at all in Laos.
The people of Laos didn’t know about it. Even the basic foreign words that we know such as bus, taxi, shirt, cream, banana, etc., are all spoken in Lao, and it is true that even foreigners who speak English well are bound to be mute in Laos.
If a foreigner wants to travel to Laos outside of a certain big city, he or she should learn at least a few basic words of Lao and leave. Of course, if you are a short-term traveler, it is not easy to learn Lao on purpose.
For them, they are confident in their ‘body language’, which is a common language around the world, and anyway, traveling is about going into the unknown in search of adventure and thrill.
That look alone is enough to make a conversation , so what more need to hesitate? I want to. Before I knew it, there was still a lot of sunset left, but after all, 20km was a warm-up, and I was arriving in Seno, so the gibberish was here.
I couldn’t wait to head straight to the wet market, grab the little medicine I had planned to buy in Seno, the long-term storage mixed coffee, chocolate, ramen, and a few clothes, and prepare for the march that was about to begin tomorrow.
