Rethinking the Concept of Promise

What a beautiful world it is!
walk to the sky....

Part 1
Like clouds moving in the wind.

day 12,

the  concept of promises made me think again.

When I woke up in the morning, the soles of my feet were worse than I thought. Still,  I couldn’t help it,  so I went to Savannahkep, where I was going to die today, but I still had the last step of the day, and I thought I would have to fall down, so I  set out on the road.

I tried to hold on with the blistered soles of my feet, and I put on two layers of socks first, but soon the blisters burst and I felt sore, and I tried to roll up a thick layer of toilet paper, but it was still pushed and the flesh came out.

His awkward gait was like the retreat of a defeated soldier who had been wounded. It seemed to me that I should  hurry into the city center, find a suitable place, and rest for a few days or more  to repair the broken soles of my feet.

It’s been about 20 days since I started my trip, and I’ve managed to control myself and hold up pretty well,  but it finally came. I had prepared myself anyway, but when  it came down, I was just embarrassed that I had no choice but to stop walking for a while, let alone feel pain.

Savannakheb, which means “heavenly plain”, is the largest industrial city in Laos,  along with Pakse, the main administrative city in southern Laos, and is located on the border with Thailand’s Mokdahan on the Mekong River, with an airport and a hospital.

So I had no choice but to go all the way to the city anyway, so I kept going and going, and it wasn’t really funny, but  I remembered Young-gu from the “gag concert” a long time ago, and I couldn’t help but laugh blood~-sik.

I happened to see a bus stop, so I took a break and took a seat,  but there happened to be a Frenchman next to me who was traveling. But when I looked at the look on his friend’s face, he said, “What’s the matter?”  and he was a little reminded that he had missed the long-distance bus.

The story  was that I had been waiting since 1 p.m. to catch the 4 p.m. bus, but  while I was distracted for a while,  the bus I was waiting  for passed by an hour early, around 3 p.m.

It was ridiculous for me, a third party, to  just hear  it  , but how absurd was  the person concerned?  I could guess. However, most of  the buses  that connect small and medium-sized cities in Laos  are imported and converted from Korean freight cars, and they are a  kind of freight car variant that carries passengers in the cargo compartment.

However, the buses were long-distance buses, and they were only a few years old , so I got on them, but most of them only run directly at night, so I have no choice but to use the local buses that run during the daytime.

The problem was that most of the buses that run during the daytime were just buses, and in a word, they were junk cars on the verge of being scrapped, not  to mention the safety and inconvenience that they could roll over, and even more so they could go and stop anywhere at the request of the passengers.

In particular, even though there is a regular timetable, is the driver personally busy or not? Depending on the circumstances  , the  time may be accelerated by about 1 hour, or it is normal for it to be delayed,  and even if  this car breaks  down even after it starts, such as loading and unloading cargo on the roof,

No  one  can predict how long the stop  will last,  and it is not uncommon for the arrival to be  delayed  by more than a few hours.

All I  can see is the look on everyone’  s face Of course, foreigners can’t do  anything about it, and they  have no  choice but to wait for it to be disposed of,  and if they want to protest, they have to be prepared to get off the bus, so they just have to keep a quiet eye if they don’t want to be kicked out.

Speaking of which, let me say  a little bit more about the Lao people’s sense of time, and in the meantime, I’ve been saying that in Laos, or rather, most people in Southeast Asia don’t know what kind of promises are promises. The concept wasn’t that you had to abide by it,

That it is necessary to know that the expression “keeping” is appropriate if possible depending on the circumstances, and  that the person who kept the promise does not ask the person who did not keep the promise any reason, but rather that there must have been a reason for it, and that it is generous, etc.

Of course, it is  rare for a person who did not keep a promise to express regret to a person who kept a promise, so  it may seem that we do  not understand it at all, but it is not  a matter of anything here, but  it is just a normal insignificant thing.

It  can only be understood by their peculiar optimistic thinking  . We have no choice but to look at them from their point  of view, not from our own point of view, and if  we keep our promises, we  can only hope that each other will keep them.

For whoever I can’t keep, for any reason, I come first, I can never take the place of my life, I can’t be subjected to any interference from anyone else, I can only predict the future in the freedom of the present  , by my own decisions.

No coercion or assertive action is forbidden  by promise. It’s just that nature has taught me, that flowing is  the most realistic and wise  because  I exist in the flowing time, and that I should be  the first  priority because it is the life I have to live.

In its own way, it can  be inferred from  the “zari ita”  idea of Theravada Buddhism (more than 90% of the population believes in Buddhism) as a religious concept  unique  to Laos that is deeply  rooted in the somewhat selfish truth that one becomes the Buddha first and saves sentient beings.

I think that maybe the promise we know is a sense of freedom that allows us to get away from our obsessions,  and if everyone knows it that  way and lives with it, then it  ‘s not so wrong.

As we waited for the next bus that he didn’t know when he would come, we talked about this and that, exchanged thoughts, and gave him a little word of comfort, and asked him if he knew of any reasonably cheap guesthouses in the city.

Luckily, the guesthouse he stayed with is not far from here, and there are various restaurants such as PC cafes in the vicinity, and most importantly, the price is very affordable.

After saying good luck, I made a final effort to go to the guesthouse my friend had introduced, and when I finally arrived, it looked much shabby than I expected, but I really liked the price.

The friendliness of the owner and the amenities for the price did not seem to be inconvenient for me to use, so I checked  in for 3 days and added that I might extend it after seeing the situation of the soles of my feet, and then headed to the room.

And as soon as I entered the room, I checked the soles of my feet, and I thought, oh my God! As expected, the toilet paper wrapped around the soles of my feet was covered in blood, and even my feet were a mess that I thought was too much.

It didn’t seem like a joke to even remove the toilet paper right away, but after a while, the attendant showed up with the basin he had asked to dip his feet in, frowned,  and said, “What’s going on?In a nutshell, he said, “I walked 20 days from Attappu to here.”

“No, that’s where it is!” Finally he pointed his finger at his head and spun it around, “Are you not crazy?”His eyes widened. “Yes! What am I   doing? I think I’m out of my mind.”

I muttered something in Korean, and I didn’t understand it, and he said, “Are you sure? I can’t believe it.”   Anyway, it wasn’t the time to talk about it anymore, so I figured I’d have to get rid of the toilet paper on the soles of my feet somehow.

The problem was how tightly it was holding on to the flesh, and I didn’t know what to do because it was about to fall to the flesh when I tried to pull it off. No matter how you think about it, if you don’t remove the bloody toilet paper and disinfect it, it’s really a big deal if it gets inflamed in hot weather.

It seemed that the only way to do this was to soak the soles of my feet in water and remove them, but I don’t know. I closed my eyes and dipped my feet, as if it wasn’t enough to poke my eyes involuntarily, and I was involuntarily gritting my teeth and screaming, and there was no African Tarzan.

I could feel that all my hair was stiff as if it had become a hedgehog, and I had no choice but to scuffle with toilet paper for a while  because of my  arrogance, and I was soaking my underwear with cold  sweat  from the strength of my breasts.

In the end, I managed to pull it off, but I was so nervous that I was exhausted. It was only after a long time that I came to my senses, only to sigh, to realize the  worst of the trip.
