Suddenly, in the golden sand
The red sun rises.
thought it was sizzling
Back into the dune horizon
I’m being sucked in.
Ribbing in a sandstorm
Like a crashing wave
A ray of light and darkness
The passion of the hot sunshine
It is scattered and flying.
Yuyuhee, silent
Above the legend of Euclase and Tigris
Blessings be upon Allah’s teachings
It is inscribed in the Qur’an
It maintains a thousand-year altitude.
Brilliant Mesopotamian
A page of glorious history
Remembering, shining
Infinite, immortal grains of sand
It is sacredly silent.
Overcoming the pain of a long war
The scent on the turban that is about to stand up
In the shadows dyed red in the setting sun
With a long sigh,
It is beckoning comforting.
The mournful, black-eyed pupils
When, that gorgeous sand flower
Magnificent and beautiful again
May it bloom in Baghdad
They are praying with their hands folded.
