Climbing the hill where a double rainbow appears.
What a beautiful world it is!
walk to the sky....

Like clouds moving in the wind.

<day6, on the hill where the double rainbow rises>
Last night, even though I had covered
myself with the fragrance of the forest
and the beauty of the stars, I was not at ease for a moment because of the fact
that I was sleeping with the enemy. I couldn’t help but wake up to the
freshness of the early morning guard, and my body was so heavy from the evil
spirits I had created.
Thinking that perhaps this journey would find the lost me and
rebirth me, I was able to confirm once
again that at least my enemy was my heart, and that this world, which was always quietly looking at me, was never
my enemy
But
even then, the sound of the sloshing in my water-filled stomach was so
clear that I couldn’t help but feel sad, but I trudged on, comforting myself
that the fresh oxygen from the fresh forest was enough for me to have enough
energy for the march.
However, there was no small amount of
accumulated fatigue, and the ascent to the sky, which continued from yesterday
to today, continued without being able to see where the end was, and the agony
that was digging into my legs and shoulders was gradually becoming numb.
Still, I alternately comforted and encouraged myself, and I
whispered to myself, “Just a little more, just a little more,” and as
I took my heavy steps to the sky, it was
as if it had struck the side of me, and the sun that was beating down mercilessly was scorching
hotter and hotter, and I wouldn’t let go.
In the end, I had no choice but to sit
down. I managed to find an empty hut nearby, and I thought I should somehow
escape the heat for a while, so I lay down in the hut and spent about two
hours, but thanks to the occasional breeze, I thought about the trip that
lasted only seven days.
It felt like weeks had passed, and I was
still alive and sad, imagining how sad it was. But the pitiful singing of my stomach,
whose throat was full of grapes, no longer allowed me sentimental leisure, but
lifted me up,
They were forced to be dragged out onto the
road, and the march of the defeated soldiers had to be forced again, but
fortunately, after about three
kilometers, they were able to reach a fairly inhabited village. Speaking of
which, I couldn’t help but be stunned that I had suffered so much last night
with the village so close by.
Realizing that it was another
self-inflicted mistake due to a lack of prior information, I was busy looking for a place to rest. However, at the appearance of the unfamiliar remnants,
the children and the elderly in the neighborhood crowded with wary expressions. Just in case, I
tried to hide my tired expression from all the eyes near me,
With an awkward traveler smile, he said the
first Lao he learned at the beginning of
the trip, “Sabaidi” (Hello?) I took it out and gently wrapped it up
and gave it away generously. However, as a foreigner, there was a limit to my
expression, and my awkward appearance was ridiculous.
Luckily, the smile let him off guard, and after
a while, he approached with his characteristic smile. Even though it was a word
in Laotian that a stranger could speak, I could feel the power of
“Sabaidi” being truly great. Find a suitable hole shop in the village,
and first blow a bottle of cold cola with a trumpet to
quench your thirst.
Ask the owner, “Squeezed
cowmibur?” When I asked him if he had any rice, he said “vermi”
(none) with a curious look on his face in the Lao language of the foreigner,
and he said “there is no rice” again, but he still said, “burmi,
tang nao lao” (in a word, he is not eating).
In Laos’ rural food culture, where there
are no refrigerators, I know I don’t have any time to spare, and when I look at
my watch, it’s too late for breakfast, and it’s still too early for lunch, so
it’s natural to say “no.”
I was sad,
but I was a little relieved because he pointed me to the restaurant and
the guesthouse, but the tension I had endured was relieved, and I
felt like I couldn’t go any further, so I found a shade in front of the store
for a while and just sat down on the ground.
The little guys in the neighborhood crowded
in as if they had some kind of big spectacle, and I had no choice but to take a
break without any pride or embarrassment. Silently soothing his aching heart
with a cigarette, “I’ve come all
the way here, and I’m at the restaurant in front of …….” He muttered to himself and looked around, trying to
collect his senses.
There were quite a few sunny eyes staring at the innocent , and
I could have bothered to be amused, but on the other hand, no matter how pretty
and cute their faces were, they looked a little shallow, so I playfully grimaced and said “hiu
kau” (I’m hungry).
Thinking that something was going to eat them, they all screamed “Ak~”
and ran around the ropes. I even made a noise and laughed, and I felt like I had
the strength to stand up, so I shook the
dirt off my ass pants and was able to walk again.
But
as I was walking about 10 meters, a little guy who looked like he was
about 10 years old came up to me with his hands behind his back and held out
his hand, a lump of glutinous rice in one hand and salt in the other.
“Wow~ What is this! I brought it to you to give it to you, cup-chan
lai-lai” (thank you a lot) before the words could end.
He snatched it up quickly, forgetting to be
embarrassed or not, and was busy
standing up and shoving it into one bite. Even more so, I am amazed that glutinous rice, which I eat with nothing
else for the rest of my life, could be
so delicious.
He
chewed and swallowed like a dog’s eyes, devouring them in the blink of an
eye.Perhaps the kid knew that I was too hungry just to look at him, and the
quick-witted old guy had just noticed that there was leftover rice from the
morning at his house, so he went back and took a loaf of it.
However, an old lady who had been watching
me up close motioned for me to come into her house, and
without saying a word, she simply served me a large chunk of glutinous rice with a bowl of cold water .
I
was so grateful for her kindness that tears welled up in my eyes. The
sight of me just soaking up on emotion, taking a big chunk off, dipping a lot of sauce in it, stuffing it
into my mouth, and munching on it was really a spectacle to me.
The sight of me busily chewing on who was
chasing me and saying “cupjai lalai” (thank you very much) while my grandmother smiled softly through
the deep wrinkles and nodded her head
was truly unforgettable and heartwarming.
Of course, I tried to thank him after the meal, but in
the end, he refused, so I had no choice but to turn away with a deep sense of
gratitude in my heart. I just said to myself, “Thank you, Grandma! Live
happily ever after~”.
It was about 15 kilometers to the guesthouse in the next village, and I
thought about finding a suitable place nearby to rest, but I thought it was worth the walk
anyway because I was hungry, and since I didn’t have enough pockets, I thought
it would be better to go a little further while I had the strength.
I think I
had left the village for a while,
but then on the other side of the dry sky, there was a seven-colored rainbow that was so vivid. It
was as if they had built a beautiful
bridge for me to cross to the other side
of the sky, and I was amazed at
how beautiful it was.
However, I couldn’t cross yet, so I
couldn’t help but express my admiration and regret at the same time, but after a while, what really surprised me was that another rainbow was put
out for me who was hesitant to cross. It was so beautiful with the colors of the
double rainbow all over the blue sky,
I could only solace myself that I was blessing the path I was walking, but
with the glutinous rice, the salt, and
the double rainbow in the dark blue sky, I was suddenly relieved of fatigue and
felt as if I had come to the entrance of
heaven, and it was such a pleasant afternoon.
Now even the smoke from his cigarettes was
so fragrant. It wasn ‘t enough to
monopolize the love of the double rainbow, and this time, I was immersed
in a little happiness as I walked through the golden sunset among
the feathery clouds that had come to me,
and the beauty of the heavens was all about the blessings of heaven.
After a while, we arrived at a small
guesthouse under the sunset rainbow and
the atmosphere of “Ta Tin”.But as soon as I opened the door and entered, the
accumulated tension and fatigue rushed over me all at once, and I couldn’t
imagine anything anymore, and I couldn’t
even move on my feet.
For a while, I lay there with my backpack
on, and then, forgetting my hunger and wanting to rest even my eyelids, I
collapsed and fell into a deep sleep, as if I had fainted, dressed as I was,
let alone showered.
