What a beautiful world it is!
walk to the sky....

On the 68th day of my solo trip to Laos, the songs of the affectionate king frogs

Today, I walked 28 km from Luang Prabang to Pak-O.

In the end, for me, Luang Prabang was not a place I was unfamiliar with because it was my first visit, but a place I had already been to several times, so now that prices during the peak tourist season are being applied, I have pocket constraints, so I will not stay any longer and continue marching north.

For the time being, I decided to retreat for operational reasons and move my early morning steps towards the Chinese border in the northernmost part of Laos and set out on the road. Come to think of it, if I were to explain a little bit about my trip to Luang Prabang, there are many things to see around Luang Prabang that are as good as the city center.

What particularly caught my attention was that there were various trekking courses available, including Lao ethnic minority and alpine villages. There are unique programs where you can ride elephants, and the traditional life culture of Laos is preserved as it is.

There are many things that make the actual trip more interesting to Luang Prabang, from simple travel to experiential tourism that goes beyond simple travel to visit Hanji Village, Silk Village, Jar Village, Brewing Village, and Salfish Village, and it is a good place to prepare for a long-term trip. I wanted to.

As the noise of the city gradually faded away, I was sad to see a Korean traveler I met as I was tied to the same guesthouse as the most memorable thing about my life in Luang Prabang, where I had been busy posting on the Internet for a few days.

Recently, due to the sudden sharp strengthening of the exchange rate of the US dollar against the won, travelers like me had no choice but to continue to suffer huge losses for more than a few months, but perhaps that is why the number of Korean tourists overseas has decreased sharply.

Laos, where the US dollar against the kip is relatively weak, could be said to be fatal, so it seemed that it was difficult to see Korean tourists for several months.

During the exchange rate attack, it seemed to be even more pleasant to remember because it was the first Korean I met. A few days ago, someone arrived at the guesthouse where I was staying, listening to the familiar voice of my hometown late at night.

It was in the room right next door, but what was it just nice to be with the same Koreans under the same roof as their hometown? However, since he was a person, I didn’t know at all, I couldn’t take the initiative, I just had my heart.

The next morning, due to our own schedules, we were separated again, and it was still a slap in our hearts, but when I came back from going out, I found that I had walked about 3.000 km from Athapu, the southernmost tip of Laos, to Samlua, the northernmost point of Laos, over a period of about 3.000 km.

He said that he had heard from the waiter that there were Koreans and left a note at the guesthouse information desk saying that he wanted to meet him. The kind gratitude that became such a relationship was that evening in front of the dinner table of Shindaekkari (Korean-style bulgogi) with a glass of beer.

He was a few years older than me, but he filled me with a glass of beer, clinked glasses like a friend with a bright smile, and chatted like a friend, talking about this and that.

When we heard that the restaurant was closing, we left the restaurant and returned to the inn, leaving a word of hope that we could end our trip well in good health and a sense of gratitude for a healthy and enjoyable trip.

But the next day, fortunately, we had a short meeting, and for lunch, we were served a bowl of ‘cao soi’ (traditional Lao noodles made by fermenting peanuts), and it was said that it was a traditional knife noodle soup that can only be found in northern Laos, where kalguksu was added to a soup made by melting light intestines.

When I thought of miso soup during my trip, I added that ‘Cao Soi’ was OK, and I had no choice but to part ways with one bowl at a time. I had to leave the short meeting, the short relationship, the considerate consideration and worry, etc., as regrets, and I once again told you to stay healthy forever.

I had no choice but to wave my hand, and even though I couldn’t find that figure before I knew it, I couldn’t turn around for some reason, and I was a little thrilled that I was able to use Korean for the first time in almost a year, and I couldn’t take my eyes off the back for a long time.

And I don’t know what kind of relationship it is, but I wonder if we can meet again in Laos… For some reason, rather than just being Korean, I felt like an older brother from the same neighborhood that I had known well for a long time.

Now, as a token of gratitude for the courage that has encouraged me like this, I am heading to Pongsali, the northernmost tip of Laos, with even more confident steps for the ‘trump and complete tour of Laos’.

“Yes, the world is still warm!”. As I walked along the sunny and beautiful Ou Riverside, filled with regrets, everything I encountered, including nature and people, felt just as affectionate and lovely.

They saw me off on my way all day today, and I was walking away again like an arrow. I thought it was morning, but the sun was already dyed in the sunset, and it was evening. But when I thought about it, I realized that I had achieved nothing today except that I was walking.

I was disappointed that I was approaching. On the side of the road, on the banks of the river, the king frogs who suddenly knew no speed were drinking and chattering like the old drunkards, and like the sorrows of the stubborn ghosts, without showing any signs of remorse, in the waters of their lowly river,

All day long, I could hear the singing and the sound of shouting. But what and how can I remember today… I was also confused about what could be different from them.

It’s just that this is my eight sons, and I’m just satisfied that they’re with me, that today everything is a part of my life, that I’m still alive here, and that I only reverently and gratefully accept that I’ve achieved nothing today,

I was hesitating without hesitation, saying, “Yes, but I’m just one step closer to my heaven, and my day is enough.”
