When I entered the reception room of the guesthouse, my dignified-looking grandmother greeted me warmly. The young woman who greeted her introduced her as the last Crown Princess of the Lang Sang Kingdom in Laos.
I politely thanked him and started the interview, first asking him to explain the history of the Langsang Kingdom. However, she looked at me tiredly, said nothing for a while, and then opened with a slightly stiff expression.
“The Lang Sang Kingdom of Laos began to fight for royal power in the 14th century, and its national power began to decline day by day, and in preparation for the invasion of Burma (now Myanmar), which eventually emerged as a new power in Indochina, the capital was moved from Luang Prabang to Vientiane.
Part of the northeastern region of the country (present-day Chiang Mai, etc.) was given to Thailand, Myanmar, China, etc., and although it managed to maintain its existence after that, it was unable to escape from the colonial wars of the European powers in the 18th century.
Eventually, it was handed over to a French colony. After that, in the 20th century, it gained friendly independence from France, but it was immediately embroiled in the Vietnam War, and was invaded by Thailand, and communism accelerated to the present.
At that time, Laos and Thailand spoke the same language and maintained a strong mutual friendship as brotherly countries for a long time, but in the 19th century, taking advantage of the weakening of the national power of the Langshuang, Ayuttha in Thailand crossed the dispersed areas of Laos.
Suddenly, long before the Qian Dynasty, they waged a war under the premise of regaining the lost territory and occupied Vientiane, the capital of the Lang Sang Kingdom. At that time, through the mediation of France and others, Chiang Mai, with a population of about 10 million, Udon Thani, with a population of 4 million, and Ubon Ratchathani with a population of 1 million, were established in present-day western Laos and eastern Thailand.
It was said that all the dispersed areas of the Langsang Kingdom were given to the Kingdom of Ayuttha, and in fact, the Kingdom of Langsang withdrew from the Mekong River to its border and became communist and reached the present. In this regard, even now, people living in this area speak languages such as Lao.
They are living a borderless life without a visa across the Mekong River, for the purpose of visiting relatives and friends, and constantly going back and forth.” When asked about the eve of communism, she turned her face again and let out a long sigh.
I didn’t even want to remember, but in the end, I couldn’t continue speaking, and after saying sorry, I got up and left the room. In the end, I thought I finally understood why I had agreed to the interview with difficulty.
Since the interview had to be concluded, I had no choice but to ask a Han official from the old dynasty who had been with me from the beginning of the interview to take care of the rest. He said that it was a behind-the-scenes story, “In the process of communization, the king and others were forced to go into exile,
Since some other family members, including the crown princess, could not go with them, only the king and the crown prince left the country in a hurry, and the crown princess and others decided to see the next opportunity, but the next opportunity was not easy, and only indifferent years passed.
The unlucky crown princess was just married and had to say goodbye before she could dream of a newlywed, but in the end, while guarding the palace at a young age and fighting alone, her father-in-law, the last king of the Langsang Kingdom, died in the United States.
Only the last crown prince remained in the United States, and he continued to look for opportunities for reunion, but fortunately, through the mediation of the United Nations and other countries in the repatriation movement of the crown princess and others, the Lao government was able to allow the crown prince to enter the country humanely.
The crown prince came to Neng Khai, a border city in Thailand in Thailand adjacent to Vientiane, the capital of Laos, to return to Laos through Thailand with a daunting heart and set foot on the land of his homeland.
The day before entering the country, while spending the last night, the next morning, he was found with a mysterious cold body, and in the end, he was unable to return to his homeland alive. Who, why, and why? No one knows who died.
Of course, I can guess.” And in fact, the lineage of the Lao royal family was cut off, and only the last crown prince, who could not go into exile, remained, and the crown prince was left alone and lived in the royal palace.
When the crown prince passed away due to a mysterious death, the Lao government recommended that the Lao government turn it into a museum and move to an ordinary village house nearby and live as an ordinary citizen.
Meanwhile, he renovated the house he lived in and operated it as his current guesthouse (near Wat Sieng Thong), but he was unlucky alone, burying everything in history as the last crown princess of the Lang Sang Kingdom, and living among the traveling guests.”
Finally, at the request of the Crown Princess, he promised not to disclose any photos of the interview that could cause political problems, and after finishing the interview, he turned away. The interview was over, but I couldn’t help but feel sorry for a while.
On the way back to the inn, as if nothing had happened, Goznok was just flowing by the Mekong River in front of Sieng Thong, the old royal temple in Luang Francang, without knowing anything, and only the wet eyes of the last crown princess seemed to remember Luang Prabang.
