On the 61st day of my solo trip to Laos,
the “stone jar” of Laos
※Today, I traveled about 60 kilometers by bicycle from Ponsaban to the Stone Jar Plain.
The power of Lao Lao’s traditional whiskey LaoLao has already been on the 5th day, except for the time to eat, and I can’t get out of bed, so I just roll around trying to attach my laptop. It seemed to be hanging too long,
To start back to Tubuk, I thought I would have to do at least a warm-up. I decided to look for the “Jar Plain”, a prehistoric ruin called the “Wonder of Laos” in many places near Sieng Quang.
However, when I looked at the map, I found that it was far from the road I was supposed to go due to its original location, and there was a lot of distance between the three public places, so if I looked around in one day, it would be impossible to walk.
Fortunately, the water ghost operation was also successful, and I was able to go out with the other travelers who were tied up with me at the inn. It had been a long time since I had been riding leisurely on the Hwangteop Road under the blue sky in the dawn breeze, and the feeling of running leisurely on the road was refreshing.
Early in the morning, on the straight asphalt, stepping on the thick fog, and slowly squeezing the sunlight into the scenery, I looked around Ponsaban and saw that both sides of the road and in front of the building were full of bomb debris, and there was no exhibition hall.
As I stared, I thought, no matter how unexploded the bomb was, it wouldn’t explode, would it? I imagined it, but it was just terrible. In fact, there were still Mindung Mountain in the bomb sere, and there were no-entry warning signs here and there announcing the danger of unexploded bombs.
In fact, the wounds of nature destroyed by the explosives of war and chemicals (Agent Orange) were lying in front of me in a sad state, and even after more than 4or 0 years, they could not heal and were moaning in front of me.
Anyway, I wondered what excuse I needed in front of the past, but as a human being, I decided not to repeat this kind of unfortunate incident, so I thought about the background for a moment. At that time, most of Indochina was turned into a colony, etc.
France, which was on the verge of power, gave up Paris to the Germans in World War II, but fortunately, thanks to the Allied landings in Normandy, it was able to regain Paris. It is true that in the process of such a sequence, France’s internal and external power was weakened.
Still, he tried to regain his colonial greed in Indochina, which had been hesitant for a while, but it was not enough to regain his former reputation. In the end, he suffered a great defeat at the Battle of Dien Bien Phu in Vietnam and was forced to leave Indochina gradually.
Therefore, the United States, which defeated Germany and Japan, led World War II to victory, and fought the Korean War, began to help the last king of Laos at the time in the name of protecting liberal democracy to occupy the strategic position of Indochina after France.
In the process of the United States attacking the communist forces in Laos at the time, considering that the communist forces in Laos and Vietnam were building a united front, the greed to gain Vietnam, which was a strategic strategic point, as a bridgehead, was bound to expand into an all-out war.
This was the beginning of the de facto Vietnam War. However, the Viet Cong and other countries that were based on the Lao Mountains in the long stretch of mountains on the border between Vietnam and Laos had no special countermeasures, so they were dragged around for more than 10 years, and the war was prolonged.
To find a breakthrough in victory as soon as possible, the United States mobilized all kinds of means, including the South Korean military, and developed and deployed new weapons, but only lost its national power and national interests. As it caused many casualties, the political status of the U.S. government is inevitably falling.
As the political position gradually came to a crisis due to international public opinion and the anti-war protests spread by its own people, in 1973, the last large-scale bombs and chemicals such as Agent Orange were mobilized to carry out an indiscriminate scorched earth operation in the jungle.
The following year, they were driven by the Viet Cong’s Tet offensive and gave up to Hanoi. In the end, it was judged that holding on any longer would be too great, let alone profit. In the end, the United States and other countries that were fighting against the communist army had completely withdrawn from Vietnam.
It is easy to guess how many innocent people were killed and injured in this process, but in this regard, at the tourist information center here, all the villagers in some nearby villages were tragic.
There were several places where only one or two people survived that were not in the village, and many of the survivors lost their limbs and lived as disabled people for the rest of their lives, and the facts recorded in detail along with photos were revealed.
The extent of the damage is difficult to describe in words, but there are still countless such harsh wars being waged in various parts of the world under the pretext of certain interests, and innocent people are being killed or damaged for unknown reasons.
It was a reminder once again that there should be no war for any reason. After running through the scars of war for a long time, I arrived at the plain of the jar in question, but when I arrived, I found that it was well organized and preserved like an ancient ruin.
As a protagonist of the Vietnam War, Sieng Quang, I was able to realize once again the bomb launders that could not be avoided even in the ruins. However, after a while, something that I couldn’t help but be surprised by was unfolding in the corner of my eyes.
At first glance, it was just a large and small stone jar, but when I investigated its inner story, I couldn’t help but be amazed beyond surprise. In other words, if you go back a long time, tens of thousands of years ago, this place was an ancient cultural site where many people lived together.
In recent years, traces of ancient group habitation of mankind have continued to be discovered, and many artifacts that are believed to have been used in various places such as stone stones that were larger than the old collection were exquisitely polished and polished like today’s jars.
This was because the attention of anthropologists such as archaeologists was being focused. Obviously, when we measured the date of the production and installation of the artifacts using modern science, it was confirmed that it was about the Stone Age back in time.
The problem was that it was an irony that modern science could not understand how good the equipment and technology were at the time, and how it could be so elaborately refined. No matter how much experts from all over the world tried to find a way,
It was explained with the conclusion that there was no clear answer at present. First, the height and width of the artifacts are about 1m~3m each, only the size is different, and the shape is estimated to be a stone jar with a lid, and the distance is about 10km.
There were 30~40 colonies in several places at once, and in any case, it is not known how they were made, but they were explained as a kind of funeral culture tool that was put in when a person died.
So, was this a cemetery for prehistoric people? I couldn’t help but wonder. Some people make absurd claims such as that they still fell from space, but what kind of purpose did the actual astronauts use it? It was also a question.
No matter how much I thought about it all the time I came back, why did they really do it in the past? How many people lived in this mountain, what did they do, what did they do, and what did they have to do to make stone jars? I can’t handle my little head,
I had no choice but to keep my head tilted and shook my head. Indeed, it is impossible to imagine what tools were used and how they were made in the past, and they were truly ironic stone jars in Laos.
